The sisters of Pakistan’s former Prime Minister, Imran Khan, claim that the police outside Adiala Jail assaulted them in what they describe as a “brutal and planned” attack. The women visited the jail to enquire about his condition, saying they were concerned about his health. Imran’s sisters have demanded an investigation into the violence, which they claim occurred without provocation after streetlights were deliberately switched off.
Social Media Speculation and Misinformation
Speculations about former Prime Minister Imran Khan's whereabouts are widespread in Pakistan after his three sisters were allegedly assaulted by police for seeking a meeting. Several social media handles, from Afghanistan and Pakistan, reportedly mentioned that Imran Khan was mysteriously killed inside Adiala Jail. The rumors emerged after a government ban on meeting the former Pakistan PM was enforced for over a month.
However, the claims have not been confirmed by any credible department or agency. Thousands of PTI supporters later gathered outside Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, raising slogans against his arrest.
Violence from Police Officials Provokes Family's Demand for Probe
Imran Khan's sisters, Noreen Niazi, Aleema Khan, and Dr Uzma Khan, alleged they faced a brutal and orchestrated assault by police. Noreen Niazi said that “We peacefully protested over concerns for his health condition. We neither blocked roads, nor obstructed public movement, nor engaged in any unlawful conduct.”
She further added, “Yet, without warning or provocation, the streetlights in the area were abruptly switched off, deliberately casting the scene into darkness. What followed was a brutal and orchestrated assault by Punjab police personnel.”
Imran Khan’s sisters demanded that the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab immediately initiate proceedings against all police personnel involved in this brutal assault. They stated the police conduct was criminal, illegal, and morally reprehensible.
The demand by Imran Khan's sisters for a thorough investigation into the brutal assault incident at Adiala Jail highlights an immediate challenge to the law enforcement and governing authorities.
