The Haryana-cadre IPS officer, Y Puran Kumar, was found dead at his official residence in Sector 11, Chandigarh. After a thorough observation, a gunshot wound was discovered on his body.
The police and forensic teams arrived at the scene, recovered the weapon, and an inquiry has been initiated into the incident. The officer was 52 years old and was about to retire in 2033. At the time of the incident, his wife, who is also a senior IAS officer, was out of the country on official duty.

Background of Administrative and Caste-Related Allegations
Puran Kumar was recently transferred to the post of Inspector-General, Police Training Centre, Sunaria in Rohtak. He was known for his bold stance on administrative and departmental issues within the police force. He had raised concerns regarding the transparent functioning of the system, officers’ promotions, and the allotment of official vehicles based on entitlement.
The officer was particularly outspoken about issues related to the representation of Scheduled Castes (SC) in police ranks. He claimed that he and his batchmates were being discriminated against based on caste when it came to promotions and pay fixation.
Puran had also lodged complaints of "harassment and humiliation" against a senior IAS officer in the past. The reason behind the IGP officer’s death is still unknown; however, a Police inquiry has been initiated.
