Daryl Mitchell’s century against West Indies secured him the top spot in the world as an ODI batter. He surpassed Rohit Sharma’s 22-day reign. He is the first cricketer from the New Zealand team to achieve this after Glenn Turner.

Mitchell smashed 118 off 119 balls in their series opener in Christchurch. He also won the Player of the Match award for his outstanding performance.

His performance pushed him past India's Rohit Sharma and Afghanistan's Ibrahim Zadran by a single rating point. The last Kiwi player to hold the top ODI rank was Glenn Turner back in 1979. Rohit's Short Stint at the Top of the Charts

Indian captain Rohit Sharma's reign at the top of the ICC Men's ODI Batting Rankings was short-lived. His tenure as the world's premier ODI batter lasted only 22 days. The knock secured India an emphatic nine-wicket victory in the final ODI. His efforts helped him overtake Ibrahim Zadran and teammate Shubman Gill. However, Daryl Mitchell changed the game following his century against the West Indies. Rohit Sharma has dropped to the second position in the latest ICC rankings update.
