Rohit Sharma Remembers Champions Trophy Glory, Highlights Dravid’s Impact
India's opening star batsman, Rohit Sharma, who has been removed from the captaincy of the ODI, while making his public appearance for the first time, reminisced over the 2025 Champions Trophy glory in Dubai.
While discussing the triumph, he credited the victory to processes established during Rahul Dravid’s tenure, praising the team for embracing the former captain-coach pair’s ideology. “It was Dravid who set the thought process; everyone bought into it and executed it perfectly,” Rohit said.
Journey to Champions Trophy Success
Under Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid, India returned from the 2023 ODI World Cup final loss at Ahmedabad to secure the 2024 T20 World Cup and 2025 Champions Trophy.
“We’d come so close to winning that trophy many times, but we couldn’t just get over the line. It needed everyone to buy into the plan,” Rohit explained. He emphasized discipline, collective effort, and consistently challenging themselves.
CEAT Awards and ODI Return
Rohit Sharma was honored with a special memento at the 27th edition of the CEAT Awards in Mumbai for his leadership in India’s Champions Trophy triumph. “All the guys got into the thought process of how to win games and not take anything for granted. That helped us throughout the tournament,” he said.
Rohit is preparing for India’s ODI series in Australia starting October 19. “ Australia is a very challenging country to play cricket in. People there love the game, and we need to perform at our best,” he added.
Analysis: Leadership and Team Dynamics
Rohit Sharma’s omission of Gautam Gambhir from his Champions Trophy credit list has sparked speculation. While Gambhir was head coach during the tournament, Rohit’s remarks underline the lasting impact of Rahul Dravid’s leadership.
“Those qualities helped me and Rahul Bhai when planning for the T20 World Cup and Champions Trophy,” he said. Rohit and Dravid amplify the gravity of the well-rounded histories of leadership that influence the performance of the Indian cricket team.
