Manoj Tiwary, Ex-Indian Cricketer, Says Bronco Test Intends to Eliminate Rohit Sharma from ODI Team
Manjo Tiwary, the former Indian cricketer, has made some bold remarks on the inclusion of the Bronco tests in cricket. He claims this move is to keep Rohit Sharma out of the Indian ODI team. This test was supposedly introduced under the charge of India’s strength and conditioning coach, Adrian Le Roux. This surpasses the previous "Yo-Yo” test, as it is much more difficult and demands higher fitness standards.
What Did Manoj Tiwari Say About the Bronco Test?
Tiwary has publicly stated that the timing and intention behind introducing the Bronco test hint at several controversial decisions as Team India nears the World Cup 2027.
Doubting Sharma’s fitness level, he said, “I think it will be very difficult to keep Virat Kohli out of the plans for the 2027 World Cup. But I doubt that they are going to look at Rohit Sharma into the scheme of things.”
He also added, “See, I'm a very keen observer of what things are going on in Indian cricket. And I believe this Bronco Test, which was introduced a few days back, I think, is for players like Rohit Sharma.”
Manoj Tiwary strongly believes that Rohit Sharma's current level of fitness will make it very difficult for him to secure a spot in the ODI team. He must improve his fitness level as early as possible to be a part of the Indian ODI team.
What is the Bronco Test?
The Bronco test is a standard fitness test used to measure the fitness levels of players in highly intensive and physically demanding sports like rugby, where steady aerobic output is required. The Yo-Yo test, on the other hand, allowed short resting periods after intense training. However, the Bronco test does not allow resting periods between sessions, so it tests the players' cardiovascular endurance and stamina.
In the Bronco test, shuttle runs for 20 meters, 40 meters, and 60 meters are expected to be completed five times without taking a break for a single moment. Top athletes generally take 6 minutes to finish the test. The test was brought into practice because recently, almost every Indian bowler, apart from Mohammad Siraj, appeared exhausted during India’s Test tours of England.
To sum up, Manoj Tiwary points out that the motto behind the Bronco test’s inclusion in Indian cricket is to keep out players like Rohit Sharma from the ODI team. He expresses concerns about this move. However, the cricket coaches have said that this test is necessary as only Mohammad Siraj, out of all the bowlers, appeared in good form during India’s recent Test tour of England.
