Indian cricketer Virat Kohli has leased the singing icon Kishor Kumar’s bungalow in Juhu to open his restaurant, One8 Commune. Though the restaurant has been functional since September 2022, it has returned to the spotlight on major social media platforms for its unique menu and price points.

Apart from quality food and excellent hospitality, the restaurant also reflects Virat Kohli’s cricketing legacy. The menu particularly displays the food habits of the cricketer, with plant-based meats, tofu steaks, mushroom truffle dishes, and seafood options.

A Mix of Cricket, Cuisine, and Kishore Kumar's Legacy

Virat Kohli's Mumbai restaurant, One8 Commune, is a unique dining space. It pays heartfelt tribute to legendary Bollywood singer Kishore Kumar's legacy in music. The bungalow was called 'Gouri Kunj,' initially, but was later transformed by Virat Kohli. One of the reasons Kohli chose this specific location stems from the fact that he has been a lifelong admirer of Kumar's singing talent.

The cricketer has basically merged the bungalow's emotional essence with a modern design. The restaurant's name, One8 Commune, is inspired by Kohli's famous jersey number 18. This choice combines his sports identity with his hospitality venture. Kohli wanted to offer a relaxed and casual vibe where people from every community can feel as though they are at home.

Decoding the High-End Pricing of the One8 Commune Menu

The menu prices at the One8 Commune Juhu outlet have sparked much discussion online. Food items like steamed rice are listed at a premium price of Rs. 318; Tandoori roti or baby naan is priced at Rs. 118; and the salted fries are available for Rs. 348. Not to mention that, a mascarpone cheesecake on the menu costs Rs. 748.

This reflects the establishment's niche, high-end appeal. The menu offers a wide range of vegetarian, vegan, and non-vegetarian dishes. Additionally, the restaurant has a dedicated section labelled 'Virat's Favourites', which gives a glimpse of the cricketer's favourite vegetarian diet. The dishes in this section include tofu steak and mushroom dumplings with truffle oil. Overall, the pricing structure of different food items classifies the venue's status as a luxury dining restaurant.
