A Look-Out Circular was issued by the Delhi police against Sameer Modi, brother of escapee Lalit Modi. The police arrested him on Thursday while he returned from his trip abroad. The arrest was made after a woman filed a complaint of being sexually assaulted. She complained that Sameer Modi constantly harassed and blackmailed her.

Who is Sameer Modi?

Sameer Modi is the brother of Lalit Modi, a businessman and former cricket administrator. He is the founder and managing director of one of the fastest-growing direct selling companies, Modicare. Sameer has previously had disputes with his mother and accused her of orchestrating an attack on him over inheritance.

Why was Sameer Modi Arrested?

Delhi police officials have said that Sameer Modi was arrested in a rape case in 2019. The police officials said that she also highlighted that Sameer Modi had threatened her and her family not to disclose any information about the abuse. They also added, “Sameer Modi allegedly used his influence to silence her by intimidation and fake assurances.” The officials say that further investigation is going on, and soon the truth of the matter shall be revealed.

Allegations Denied by Sameer Modi’s Counsel

As Sameer Modi was held after the Look-Out Circular, his counsels told him that the woman had been in a relationship with him since 2019 and that she is now blackmailing him to get the money.

Modi’s counsel further added that, “She claimed to be in a relationship with Samir Modi since 2019. On August 8 and 13, Samir Modi filed complaints before various police officers for extortion and blackmail by the lady. These were supported by the WhatsApp chats between them, where she asked for an amount of ₹50 crore.”

They argued against the arrest and the rape charge, regarding the episode as a “clear case of abuse of the provisions of law and also hasty acts of the police in arresting without verifying the facts.”

To sum up, Sameer Modi is under arrest in a rape case filed by his former partner. The woman is demanding Rs. 50 crores for the torture she faced. However, the investigation is still being carried out, and all the details will be revealed soon.
