If You Have Guts, Fight Elections Tomorrow!: Mamata Banerjee Challenges Modi
In a blistering public speech on Thursday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee kicked off a vicious attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She blamed him for spreading lies and trying to divide the country in the wake of recent Murshidabad violence.
She also issued a challenge to the BJP, saying her party, Trinamool Congress (TMC), is prepared for elections even tomorrow.’
Falsehoods to Divide the Nation: Banerjee
In a sharp response to Modi’s attack on the TMC government, Banerjee retorted, “What Modi ji uttered today, when the Opposition is actively standing with the nation, has left us not only shocked but deeply pained.” Calling out a BJP minister’s promise to undertake ‘Operation Bengal,’ inspired by ‘Operation Sindoor,’ she challenged the ruling party at the Centre: “If they have courage, go to elections tomorrow. We are prepared, and Bengal is prepared to welcome your challenge.”
Operation Sindoor: ‘Don’t Insult Women,’ Urges CM
Denouncing the BJP’s scheming ‘Operation Sindoor’ campaign, Banerjee accused the Prime Minister of politicizing cultural symbols for vote banks. “Don’t insult women, Narendra Modi, by providing sindoor. Women apply sindoor from their husbands, not from political leaders. Why have you not provided sindoor to your own Mrs first?” she taunted, deriding the BJP’s campaign as a ‘foul and hollow gimmick.’
‘Jumla Party’ and Empty Promises
Banerjee didn’t hold back in labeling the BJP as the ‘Jumla Party,’ claiming that the saffron party lives off false promises and doctored stories. “You plunder the nation and run away. It doesn’t look good to speak like this,” she added, accusing Modi of intentionally attempting to politicize state matters while neglecting cooperative action by the Opposition.
PM Modi Slams TMC for Misgovernance and Corruption
Simultaneously, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while speaking at a BJP rally in Alipurduar, launched a scathing attack on the TMC government for promoting ‘violence, lawlessness, and widespread corruption.’ Modi accused the Banerjee regime of ‘plundering the rights of the poor” and ignoring crime against women and unemployment among youth.
Modi also scathingly criticized the educational system of the state, referring to the teacher recruitment scam as the best example of the corruption that had ‘destroyed the future of thousands.’
Political Battle Rages on Ahead of Polls
With both leaders exchanging barbed remarks, the political climate in West Bengal has become significantly heated. As Banerjee invites the BJP to a head-to-head election battle and Modi keeps gathering steam with blistering attacks, the state is preparing itself for yet another heating up of politics.
