TikTok Star Sana Yousaf Shot Dead in Islamabad Amid Honour Killing Speculation

In a ghastly crime that left social media abuzz, 17-year-old TikTok influencer Sana Yousaf was gunned down at her home in Islamabad on Monday.

As per reports, the Gen Z influencer, who had gained a large following over the internet, was originally hailing from Upper Chitral in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and had moved to the capital, living in Sector G-13.

Fatal Shooting in G-13 Sector

As per reports from SAMAA TV and the Express Tribune, the attacker broke into Sana’s house and shot her at point-blank range before escaping. The attack occurred under the remit of the Sumbal police station.

Officials are seeking to establish if the attacker was a familiar visitor. Reporting on police sources, SAMAA TV said that the attacker was a guest at her home at the time of the shooting.

Police confirmed Sana’s body was taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for autopsy. An official investigation has been initiated, even though no one has been arrested, and the prima facie of the murder is still unknown.

Possible Honor Killing

Though authorities are yet to announce the motive, the Express Tribune said the murder is suspected to be a case of honor killing, a trend that keeps taking young women’s lives in Pakistan, especially those who are active on social media.

This case comes to mind in light of a similar case some time ago this year when a 15-year-old girl identified as Hira was shot dead by her father and maternal uncle in Quetta. The teenager had allegedly been killed for posting videos on TikTok despite being warned several times not to do so.

In that incident, both the accused had confessed and were arrested. The investigation was subsequently transferred to the Serious Crime Investigation Wing.

Public Outrage and Call for Justice

Sana Yousaf’s tragic death has led to global outrage on social media, where fans and other creators are calling for justice. #JusticeForSana #Accountability has been topping the trends, as people criticize the persistent violence against women and lax protection for female influencers in Pakistan.

Ongoing Investigation

To date, the Islamabad Police have initiated a manhunt to arrest the unknown suspect. The authorities are also probing whether the murder was premeditated and whether Sana had been threatened by anyone before the incident.

The death of Sana Yousaf highlights increased dangers for female online content creators in patriarchal societies where social media exposure tends to make them vulnerable to violence based on archaic honor principles.
