A suspected major terror plot has been foiled by authorities in Haryana's Faridabad district. The police recovered around 350 kilograms of explosive material along with an AK-47 rifle, ammunition, and equipment believed to be used for assembling improvised explosive devices.

The recovery was made during a coordinated operation carried out by the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Faridabad Police, and central intelligence agencies.

The search operation, according to officials, was conducted at a rented accommodation in Dhauj village, located on the outskirts of Faridabad, near the Aravalli hills. The premises were leased by a doctor who hailed from Jammu and Kashmir.

He was taken into custody for interrogation. Earlier this week, another doctor from J&K, suspected to be part of the same network, was arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur district. Interrogation of the first suspect is learnt to have led investigators to the Faridabad hideout.

Police sources said the seized substances were initially suspected to be RDX. However, forensic tests later identified the material as ammonium nitrate, a commonly available chemical compound that is often misused for explosive purposes with a mixture of accelerants and detonators.

The recovered items included several bags of ammonium nitrate, 48 components used for assembling explosive devices, around five litres of an inflammable liquid solution, bomb timers, batteries, wires, and toolkits. These materials suggest that the site may have been used either as an assembly or storage site for explosive devices.

Suspects' Links With Terror Networks Investigated

The recovery also included one AK-47 assault rifle, multiple magazines, and live rounds of ammunition. Officials said the quantity of explosive material seized could have been used to fabricate various high-intensity IEDs capable of causing large-scale damage.

Investigators are now examining whether the suspects planned attacks in Delhi-NCR or other areas in northern India. The rented house was reportedly taken about three months ago, and suspects are believed to have kept a low profile in the locality.

The police stated that the individuals involved were educated and had no prior criminal records. Authorities said this raised concerns about radicalisation networks targeting skilled professionals.

Security agencies are investigating the possible links of the suspects with Pakistan-based terror organisations. A preliminary inquiry has suggested the involvement of a larger network that may be coordinating the procurement of explosive components and arms.

The officials said the case may be transferred to the National Investigation Agency for deeper examination of cross-border or organisational links.

Could the Faridabad Plot Have Targeted Delhi NCR?

Faridabad Police Commissioner Satender Gupta confirmed the recovery and said that further investigation is underway to identify the intended target, funding sources, and additional members of the suspected module. He added that swift coordination between state police forces and intelligence agencies averted a serious security incident.

The incident has increased security vigilance in the National Capital Region. The police have ordered additional checks and monitoring of rented accommodations, particularly in border-area villages of Delhi, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh.

Authorities have appealed to the public to report any suspicious movements or abandoned materials to their local police stations. The investigation is ongoing, and additional arrests are expected as law enforcement agencies continue to track the network's operations.
