Kerala High Court Stays The Kerala Story 2 Hours Before Release
The release of The Kerala Story 2 hit a legal roadblock after the Kerala High Court ordered a 15-day stay just hours before its scheduled theatrical debut. The court observed that “prima facie there was a manifest non-application of mind to the requirements of law by the CBFC.”
It further noted that “the possibility of communal disharmony or denigration of a community is prima facie involved in the movie.”
Tickets Still Available on BookMyShow and District
Despite the stay, The Kerala Story 2 tickets were visible on platforms such as BookMyShow and District on Friday morning. According to listings, 21 theatres in Mumbai and 14 in Delhi were still offering bookings. While major chains like PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis did not display shows, several Maxus Cinemas and M2K locations continued to list screenings, leaving audiences uncertain about the film’s status.
Cinema Chains Issue Mixed Signals
The confusion deepened after some exhibitors issued contradictory updates. Damodar Cinemas posted on X, stating, “Kerala Story Part 2 is currently on hold due to legal matters in India. Follow our page for further updates.” However, M2K Cinemas announced early Friday that the film had released in theatres.
Viewers reacted online, asking, “How are tickets available? Are cinemas out of the loop or are we?”
Legal Appeal and Industry Impact
The film has filed an appeal against the stay issued by the court, according to its director, Kamakhya Narayan Singh, and producer, Vipul Amrutlal Shah. The High Court agreed to hear the producers' plea, which created a very small chance for them to obtain their desired outcome.
The current film faced judicial intervention because courts now examine sensitive topics with greater attention than they did during similar past movie controversies. The certification results will determine how digital ticketing systems operate in Indian cinemas throughout the country.
