The Raja Saab faces a box office debacle as fans reject this magnum opus horror comedy. It has earned Rs. 170 crore worldwide in four days, but the pace has sharply slowed.

The Raja Saab Box Office

The Raja Saab earned Rs. 100 crore worldwide on its opening day. However, it suffered big dips on Saturday and Sunday. On day 4, The Raja Saab failed the all-important Monday test as well, earning just Rs. 6.60 crore net in India.

This includes earnings of just Rs. 1.75 crore in Hindi and a mere Rs. 7 lakh in Tamil. The total domestic collection by the end of day 4 stands at Rs. 114.60 crore net (Rs. 137 crore gross). The film received the weakest opening for any Prabhas film during the post-pandemic period.

In the overseas market, courtesy of a strong opening day in the US, the Maruthi directorial has earned over $3.5 million. This takes the film’s three-day global haul to Rs. 170 crore gross.

Prabhas’ The Raja Saab seems to be beyond recovery at the box office, after a tragic first Monday. The film suffered a massive 65% drop at the domestic box office. This fall comes after successive drops of 51% and 26% over the weekend. The horror-comedy has earned 88% less than first day on day 4.

Will Raja Saab Recover Budget?

The journey looks tough for The Raja Saab. The film is already tracking lower than even Saaho and Adipurush, two of Prabhas’ biggest films. Both those films had netted over Rs. 15 crore on their fourth day despite huge drops.

The Raja Saab has not even managed half of that. Given the reported Rs. 350-crore budget for the film, it is unlikely it will be able to break even.

Financial Express reported that Hyderabad remains the strongest fortress for the film, maintaining a 33 percent occupancy across 424 shows. In contrast, the Bengaluru market saw about 10.67 percent occupancy. While the Telugu version is the primary driver, the Hindi and Tamil versions saw more modest turnouts of 7.36% and 12.92%, respectively.

In the Telugu states, Superstar Chiranjeevi’s Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu is currently putting up a massive fight. Things will get even tighter this week with two big arrivals: Ravi Teja’s Bhartha Mahasayulaku Wignyapthi on January 13 and Naveen Polishetty’s Anaganaga Oka Raju on January 14.

About The Raja Saab

Directed by Maruthi, The Raja Saab had generated curiosity for its lead actor’s return to the family entertainer genre. After a decade of heavy-duty action roles, this film brings back Prabhas in a fun, romantic, and slightly goofy role.

According to the film’s synopsis, a young heir embraces both his royal heritage and rebellious spirit as he rises to power, establishing unprecedented rules during his reign as Raja Saab.

The film also stars Sanjay Dutt, Malavika Mohanan, Nidhhi Agerwal, Riddhi Kumar, Boman Irani, and Zarina Wahab.
