Aditya Dhar's Dhurandhar has officially taken the crown of the top movie of 2025, breaking box office records all over India and in international markets. The Ranveer Singh-starring spy thriller, which came out on December 5, managed to raise more than Rs. 1000 crore in global revenues, beating the optimistic trade estimates.

Analysts and trade people have called the situation a very rare occurrence where a movie received great reviews and mass appeal.

Ram Gopal Varma Hails Aditya Dhar’s Vision

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has once again praised director Aditya Dhar, calling Dhurandhar a turning point for mainstream Indian cinema. Posting on X, Varma stated, “THE FIRE BALL of the SOUTHIES invasion into BOLLYWOOD has been KICKED back by @AdityaDharFilms left foot, named #dhurandhar.” He added that the sequel is already shaping up to be even more impactful.

‘Part 2 Will Terrify’: RGV’s Bold Claim

Varma went further while reacting to early material from Dhurandhar Part 2, scheduled for release in March next year. “From what I saw of the 2nd part, if the 1st SCARED them, the 2nd will TERRIFY them,” he wrote. Though no specific southern films were named, the comment comes amid ongoing pan-India box office competition.

Why Dhurandhar Struck a Chord

RGV previously highlighted the film’s approach to violence as a key reason behind its success. He noted that action sequences were designed to emotionally impact viewers rather than rely on “loud illogical choreography.” This grounded style, he said, offers an important lesson for pan-India filmmakers aiming for authenticity over spectacle-driven formulas.

Dhurandhar 2 and the Changing Action Cinema Landscape

With Dhurandhar 2 slated for March 19, 2026, it has already created a lot of anticipation around it. Aditya Dhar's trilogy has still been marked by cinematic action and drama intensity that are realism-focused, instead of being purely entertainment-oriented, when compared to the recent hits Pushpa 2 and KGF.

If the early reviews are accurate, the sequel might be a major turning point for the perception of Indian cinema about the large-scale action film.
