Bumrah Delivers at the Death as Samson Leads India Past England into T20 World Cup Final

Sanju Samson has an honest confession to make! The new star of Team India has revealed that he would not ‘be standing here’ if it were not for the performance of Jasprit Bumrah in the semi-final match against England. Even then, he was awarded Player of the Match for the second consecutive time for taking India into the final of the 2026 T20 World Cup.

Bumrah’s Spell Seals Thriller for India

"All credit goes to Jasprit Bumrah," Samson said after the Indian team beat England by seven runs on the flat Wankhede pitch, where 499 runs were scored in the encounter. Bumrah was the difference for the Indian team, giving bowling figures of 4-0-33-1. "I think the elite bowler, the once-in-a-generation bowler... I think he gave that today. I think he deserves this."

Bumrah faced a more challenging assignment in the end when England were threatening a jailbreak after dismissing England captain Harry Brook for seven with a slower variety with his first delivery. Bumrah let up just 14 runs while bowling the 16th and 18th overs, which helped India win.

Bumrah’s Yorkers Halt Bethell as Samson Powers India’s Charge

Specifically in the 18th over, Bumrah delivered low full-tosses that were challenging to knock away and hammered his yorkers. Despite lining up the other bowlers with his incredible century, Jacob Bethell was only able to score 17 off 13 balls against Bumrah.

Also, Samson's 89 off 42 balls was a treat to watch for Suryakumar too. Samson continued to work hard in the power play, scoring 41 of the 67 runs India scored in the first six overs. 

Though Samson scored 97* and 89 runs in the virtual quarter-final and semi-final against the West Indies and England, respectively, it was in the later stages of the tournament that Samson, who was a reserve opener, proved to be vital in helping India reach the final.

"He knew what he wanted to do as soon as he went into bat," Suryakumar said of Samson. "He continued to press the pedal even after the wickets fell because he knew the wicket was good. I believe the squad needed his batting style. All of his hard work from the previous year was due, and today was a particularly difficult day."

India will now play New Zealand in the final on Sunday in Ahmedabad. Playing in India, leading such a fantastic team, and having the World Cup take place in India is, of course, an incredible experience," Suryakumar remarked. "Going to Ahmedabad, playing that final, I think it's a special feeling for all the boys."
