Knockout Looms As Anti-Dew Spray Keeps Chepauk Dry For India vs Zimbabwe World Cup Clash
The MA Chidambaram Stadium has been treated with an anti-dew chemical sourced from overseas to keep moisture from influencing the India–Zimbabwe T20 World Cup Super 8 match.
The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association said the solution has been sprayed on the outfield over the last few days. One more round will be carried out on match day afternoon, a step aimed at ensuring the surface stays dry through the evening.
The anti-dew chemical is commonly used in baseball grounds in the United States and helps the water to drain quickly and prevents the formation of dew on the grass. India is under pressure to perform well in this match following a thrashing in their last match.
Dew Factor Under Focus at Spin-Friendly Venue
Chepauk is known for aiding spinners, but night games have often told a different story. High humidity levels make the ball wet in the second innings. Bowlers struggle to grip it, and fielders find it difficult to control throws and stops. Teams winning the toss usually opt to chase.
The anti-dew treatment is expected to keep the outfield dry for both innings. If effective, it could bring the pitch’s natural characteristics back into play and make the contest more even.
Indian Team Assesses Conditions During Practice
The Indian squad spent extra time at the ground after training on the eve of the match. Players and support staff observed the outfield late into the evening to check for moisture.
Initial feedback suggested the surface remained largely dry despite the humidity. That has raised the possibility of spinners playing a bigger role in the game.
Wider Interest in the Experiment
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is keeping a close watch on the developments. The application of anti-dew chemicals may become a regular feature at large stadiums if the Chennai experiment proves fruitful.
For India and Zimbabwe, however, the immediate focus is clear. With both teams coming off losses, the Chepauk clash has effectively turned into a knockout.
