M. Chinnaswamy Stadium has been a significant part of the IPL for several decades. However, recent reports indicate that all the future matches of Royal Challengers Bangalore will be scheduled in Pune’s Gahunje. The venue change follows the unfortunate stampede outside the stadium after RCB’s victory, during which approximately 11 people were killed and many were severely injured.

Stadium Suspension Follows Tragic Stampede Incident

The Karnataka government has suspended all major events at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium until a complete investigation of the stampede is carried out. The Karnataka State Cricket Association received widespread criticism over the significant safety flaw, which led to the resignation of key officials from the association.

The stadium was also removed from hosting the KSCA Maharaja T20 Trophy. It also lost its hosting opportunity for the ICC Women's ODI World Cup 2025. With ongoing restrictions, the venue is unlikely to hold any IPL matches in 2026. The stadium needs major overhauls and safety compliance upgrades before clearance.

Pune Emerges as Frontrunner to Host RCB's Home Fixtures

The Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Pune is the leading contender. Located in Gahunje, the stadium is being explored as RCB's temporary home base. Royal Challengers Bengaluru is in advanced discussions with the MCA for this shift. MCA secretary Kamlesh Pisal confirmed the news, stating, “This arrangement (Pune hosting RCB's matches) is in discussion, but it's not confirmed yet."

The MCA Stadium offers a seating capacity of approximately 42,000. It has a proven track record of hosting high-intensity IPL matches and previously served as the home ground for teams like Rising Pune Supergiant. Pisal mentioned that a few technical details require discussion before any decision is made. If all requirements are fulfilled, Pune will likely host the matches, marking the return of IPL cricket to the city after nearly seven years.
