West-Indies-Thrash-Pakistan-to-Seal-First-Home-ODI-Series-Win-Since-1988

Shai Hope’s Century and Jayden Seales’ Six-For Power West Indies to Historic ODI Win

The West Indies men dismissed Pakistan for 92 runs in the third and final ODI in Trinidad, winning the match by 202 runs and sealing the series by 2-1 on Tuesday. At 295 to win, Pakistan could not get going; no batter could stay long at the crease to show fight. Babar Azam has now played 72 innings without scoring a century in international cricket, and his form continues to worsen.

Babar Azam walked back after scoring just nine runs. Saim Ayub, Abdullah Shafique, Mohammad Rizwan, Hasan Ali, and Abrar Ahmed all recorded ducks, making it five batsmen for Pakistan who failed to register a single run. West Indies picked Jayden Seales as the outstanding bowling performer, finishing with six wickets for 18 runs in 7.2 overs.

Windies Seal Historic Home ODI Series Win

Gudakesh Motie took two wickets, with Roston Chase taking one. It took 29.2 overs for the Windies to end the innings of Pakistan and register this big win.

With this victory, the Windies registered their first home series win against Pakistan in a bilateral ODI series since 1988. This is the West Indies' first bilateral ODI series win against Pakistan since 1991.

Salman Ali Agha was the only one who tried to stay put. He made 30 runs, but with wickets falling all around, it was only a matter of time before the hosts got away with a prestigious victory.

On the whole, the Windies captain Shai Hope carried his side to a score of 294/6 in the allotted fifty overs after playing an unbeaten knock of 120, comprising 10 fours and five sixes. Justin Greaves also played an important cameo of 43 off 24 balls to give the Windies a late flourish and land somewhere near 290 runs.

Shai Hope was declared Player of the Match for this innings.

Can Windies Build on This Historic ODI Win?

During the post-match presentation, Hope said, "It was very important for us to go deep. You want to set the tone in the power play. I wanted to give the team the best finish as well. We have struggled at times. We had 270-280 in mind. We had wickets in hand, and wanted to capitalize."

"Justin came in and played well. We had a pretty complete game today. I am extremely proud. We tend to stress the negatives. We have been creating history in the last couple of years. Really great to see the guys pulling this off. Jayden is a quality bowler. I am more excited about his preparation. He is a class act. He can move the ball both ways. Bowling much better in white ball cricket," he added.

The West Indies had been losing back-to-back T20Is against Australia and Pakistan earlier. Before that, even the sunny day-night Test against Australia saw relativization for the West Indies, with questions being raised on the state of cricketing affairs in the islands.

This final win against Pakistan will undoubtedly be a big breather for interim head coach Daren Sammy.
