Addressing increasing speculation about Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's ODI future, a statement was issued amidst media reports suggesting that both senior players might soon decide to call it a day after a long and distinguished career.

BCCI Clarifies Stance on Senior Duo’s Future

A senior BCCI official, who wished to remain unnamed, confirmed that no final decision has been taken yet. He further mentioned that the matter would be discussed with both men in due course: “I want to make it very clear once and for all.”

Rohit Sharma is the captain of India in all formats and has led them to consistent performances across formats. Virat Kohli, being one of the highest-scoring ODI batters in the history of cricket, has still been retained as a key figure in the batting lineup.

Both players slightly featured in the ODI series against Sri Lanka earlier this year, which shows that they are still committed to the 50-over format.

Speculation on their future grew upon the announcement of India’s hectic cricket calendar for 2025. The schedule features multiple Test assignments and a hectic T20I season, which include preparations for the 2026 T20 World Cup.

Some went as far as to say that the management might want senior players rested from ODIs to lessen their workload.
