Artificial intelligence

In the 17th century, the invention of the steam engine initiated the era of machines that have replaced human muscle power. Now, the technology age which is led by Artificial Intelligence is efficient enough to replace humans in areas of brainpower. AI has already brought enormous change in the way of work for every industry and sector. Managers and leaders now have to realize the existence of AI and its technical role. AI will soon be able to take certain areas where the decision-makers spend a huge amount of time on coordinating, scheduling, and making short-term data-driven decisions.

In facilitating diagnostics, developing vaccines, and treatment protocol for Covid-19, AI has been actively used. Therefore we cannot ignore or reduce the potentiality of AI, rather what we can do is improve the capabilities of human beings with the support of these intelligent machines. This refers to the need of a leader to develop skills to get accustomed and go hand in hand with Artificial Intelligence.

Read the following skills that a leader needs to acquire to combine machines with humans.

Emotional Intelligence

The ability to determine and manage emotions of oneself and others to lessen conflicts and create better human interaction is what emotional intelligence refers to. It is an essential skill set that is highly required in the age of AI. Leaders with high EI can interact with others and exhibit empathy and understanding.

Agility and Innovation

It is important for leaders to be agile and flexible to keep up with the changes that take place and continue making complex decisions using innovative technologies. Adapting quickly and developing new skills pertaining to new technology innovation is the most important attribute for a leader. This will enable the leader as well as workers to work with random technologies that are evolving.

Data Insights

With the growth of the Internet of Things, approximately 2.5 quintillion bytes of data are created. There is no doubt that machines have the potential and are also better than humans in determining patterns from the data. Therefore leaders need to create a data vision to recognize signals from noise in data using dashboards to shape an effective business strategy, vision, and insight of the organization. This process includes mining, preparation, mapping, modeling, analysis, and deployment of data solutions.

Critical and Creative Thinking

In spite of the fact that AI can make deliberative decisions based on current data in a faster way than humans, all-important critical thinking still remains with the leaders. Critical thinking is a way to examine problems from all points of view by using facts, knowledge, data, and previous experience. This aspect of logical reasoning is something that Artificial Intelligence currently can not do. Organizations need to persistently innovate new solutions and business ideas to stay pertinent and this is a task that AI is not equipped to deal with.

Ethical Judgement

AI can come up with cost-saving alternatives and schemes but it does not have the ability to ethically deal with the outcome. When Artificial Intelligence develops solutions to business problems, it is up to the leaders to decide if it goes with the organization’s values, goals, and mission. A leader has to ensure that impartial data is used for machine learning and results are thoroughly checked before deploying the model.

Data privacy

Data privacy has become crucial in the age of an increasing number of fraud cases. The leaders of the new world will be required to alleviate cyber risks which include developing organizational policies scaling from employee behavior to technical security controls.

Togetherness

A leader needs to be empathetic, who has the ability to see the world from another's point of view. This enables a leader to develop trust with their employees and create positive relationships thus resulting in a highly productive end for the organization. A manager or a leader should believe in togetherness and like-mindedness.
