The political landscape of Bihar is now going through a remarkable change. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar submitted his nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha at the state assembly secretariat in Patna. This action effectively ends his twenty-year leadership of the state government.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah traveled from New Delhi specifically to witness the filing. He was accompanied by BJP national president Nitin Nabin and Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary.

Amit Shah praised the outgoing Chief Minister's career, describing it as "spotless" and "memorable." He stated that this tenure would be regarded as a golden chapter in the history of Bihar's development.

Actually, Nitish Kumar expressed that he always harbored a desire to serve in all four legislative bodies. Having served as an MLA, MLC, and Lok Sabha MP, the Rajya Sabha was the final milestone. To be fair, the move has triggered mixed reactions on the ground. A section of JD(U) workers held protests outside the party headquarters.

They were shouting slogans against the transition. However, the alliance remains firm. Nitish Kumar confirmed on social media that the new government in Bihar will have his full cooperation and guidance. Basically, he plans to move to the national capital once the parliamentary formalities are completed after April 9.

The National Democratic Alliance has fielded five candidates for the upcoming polls. These include BJP leader Shivesh Kumar and JD(U)’s Ram Nath Thakur. Opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav has criticized the move.

He claimed that the BJP is attempting to implement a "Maharashtra model" in Bihar to gain total control. Despite this, the NDA numbers in the assembly make the victory of all five candidates almost certain.

This transition is the most discussed event in Indian politics this week. Nitish Kumar’s son, Nishant Kumar, is also expected to join the JD(U) formally on March 8. Many believe he may take a senior role in the new state cabinet. The BJP is now poised to appoint its first-ever Chief Minister in Bihar. Safety measures were tightened around the 1 Aney Marg residence to prevent further unrest among supporters. The era of Nitish as CM is over.
