Zubeen Garg, Recognized for Bollywood & Assamese Hits, Passes Away at the Age of 52

Famous Assamese singer Zubeen Garg passed away at the age of 52 after an accident in the Singapore sea while scuba diving. While the nearby police rescued Garg and took him to the hospital for treatment, the doctors could not save him.


Who was Zubeen Garg, and How Did He Die?

Zubeen was hailed as the “rockstar of the Northeast.” He became one of the leading singers in the Assamese film industry and then built a career in Bollywood as well. His recent Bollywood hits include ‘Ya Ali’ from Gangster (2006), ‘Dil Tu Hi Bataa’ from Krish 3, and ‘Jaane Kya Chahe Man’ from Pyaar Ke Side Effects.

The Assamese star went to Singapore to partake in the North East Festival and was about to perform on Wednesday. However, before his performance, Garg decided to go scuba diving and met with an accident, leading to the singer’s death. Zubeen was unconscious after the police rescued him.

The police officers immediately rushed him to the nearest hospital and admitted him to the intensive care unit (ICU). Despite the treatment, Garg showed no signs of improvement and finally succumbed to death.

Rajya Sabha MP Ripu Bora Expresses Condolences

Ripa Bora, a Rajya Sabha MP from Assam, paid his respects to the singer through his X handle. He wrote, “Deeply shocked and saddened by the untimely demise of our cultural icon Zubeen Garg.” Adding, “His voice, music, and indomitable spirit inspired generations across Assam and beyond. My heartfelt condolences to his family, fans, and loved ones. Rest in peace, Legend (sic).”

Actor Adil Hussain also mourned for Zubeen’s death and tweeted on X, “Devastated and shocked by the news of Zubeen Garg's sudden death in an accident in Singapore. I am so very sad... His contribution to Assamese music and culture is extraordinary.”

The sudden demise of Zubeen Garg has saddened his fans across India. On the other hand, questions are raised over the safety of scuba diving in Singapore. Precise details for the cause of this fatal accident have not been disclosed yet.
