Stampede fallout: Protesters demand ₹1 crore compensation from Allu Arjun
Actor Allu Arjun's residence turned into the epicentre of the protests following the tragedy of a stampede at the premiere show of 'Pushpa 2' at Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad. The December 4 incident left a 35-year-old woman named Revathi dead and her son Sri Tej critically injured.
Members of the Osmania University Joint Action Committee (OUJAC) gathered outside Allu Arjun's Jubilee Hills home on December 22, seeking justice for the victims. The protesters pelted stones and tomatoes at the property, broke flower pots, and smoked an effigy of the actor. Allu Arjun was also demanded to pay their primary demand of ₹ 1 crore as financial compensation from Revathi’s family.
Family's Swift Response
Allu Arjun's children Ayaan and Arha were present at the protest and were promptly evacuated from the premises, for their safety. A video capturing the children leaving the house amidst the commotion has surfaced online, highlighting the tense atmosphere.
Allu Aravind's Appeal for Restraint
Allu Arjun's father and producer Allu Aravind, spoke to the media about the incident. He condemned the vandalism and emphasised the need for the legal process to run its course, without interference. Aravind stated, “Incidents like these shouldn't be encouraged. This is the time to practice restraint.”
In response to the vandalism, The Jubilee Hills Police detained six persons including the OU-JAC members involved in the protest. However, a city court later granted bail to these individuals. Though their residence came under attack, Allu Arjun and his family haven’t filed a complaint against the protesters.
Ongoing Investigations
Investigations have been launched into why the tragic stampede happened at Sandhya Theatre. Reports claim that Allu Arjun was told about the stampede happening but didn’t leave right away. Police failed to be able to give the actor's staff the seriousness of the situation, according to the actor's staff.
Community’s Call for Accountability
This incident has raised a broader discussion about accountability and safety measures during high-profile events. Celebrities and event organizers are urging their fellow organisers and event planners to put public safety first to make sure this does not happen again.
The investigation continues as people focus on making sure justice is served for the victims and that public gathering safety is improved.
