Tinder’s Latest Feature Lets Friends Find Love Together. Updated Version Turns Group Dating into a Social Adventure
Tinder has launched a new feature that shifts the dating game into a more social lane. Called Double Date, the update allows users to link up with a friend and swipe as a duo, matching with other pairs in a group dating format.
It marks a bold move from the app’s classic solo-swiping style to a shared experience that feels more like hanging out than high-pressure dating.
How Double Date Works
Instead of facing strangers alone, users can now form a duo profile with a friend. Together, they browse other pairs. A single right swipe from either member of each duo is enough to unlock a match.
Once matched, a group chat begins, giving all four the space to plan meetups, skip awkward introductions, and start conversations with built-in backup.
Gen Z Drives the Shift to Group Dating
Especially Gen Z sees this group method gaining traction. According to Tinder, almost 90 percent of Double Date users fall below the age of 29. Rather, many in the group see dating more as something to be done with support and fun sharing.
A lonely vibe creeps in when swiping alone; swiping with a friend, in contrast, is more comforting and connecting.
Higher Engagement and Positive Response
Early test runs confirmed stronger engagement through this feature. Conversations that originated through Double Date contained 35% more messages than a normal one-on-one chat.
Women were also more open to swiping right in the group format, three times more likely than in solo swipes. The feature has also helped Tinder bring users back, with 15% of matches coming from either new or returning users.
A Natural Fit in Tinder’s Social Dating Evolution
The Double Date option fits Tinder’s growing list of social dating tools. Past experiments like Tinder Matchmaker and Share My Date brought outside opinions into play. This time, Tinder is pushing for real-time support, pairing the idea of group fun with real dating potential.
Global Rollout Set for July 2025
Now live in the US and select countries, the feature will expand globally in July 2025. For Tinder, it’s more than an update; it’s a shift toward turning digital dating into something less lonely, more fun, and in tune with the way young users connect today.
