Uddhav and Raj Thackeray End 20-Year Rift to Jointly Contest 2025 Mumbai Civic Polls
Mumbai’s political scene saw a major shift as Uddhav and Raj Thackeray ended their long feud. The cousins announced an alliance between Shiv Sena (UBT) and the MNS for the BMC polls. This partnership marks their first formal union in twenty years. They aim to protect the "Brand Thackeray" legacy and Marathi interests. Both leaders want to ensure the next mayor belongs to the Marathi community.
Return of the Thackeray Duo
During a joint meeting, Uddhav Thackeray said, "If you get divided or make any mistake now, you will be completely finished." Raj Thackeray added, "Maharashtra is bigger than any dispute or fight, and that is why they have come together." They plan to stop external forces from controlling the city.
This alliance acts as a biological reclamation of the original Shiv Sena. By joining forces, the cousins are trying to make the Shinde faction look like an outsider. They are using the Thackeray family name as a final shield. It is a strategic move to show that the true bloodline of Balasaheb has finally reunited. This forces voters to choose between family legacy and current government power.
Congress Stands Independent
The Congress party has decided to fight the municipal elections on its own. This move signals a break from the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance. Congress leaders feel uncomfortable with Raj Thackeray’s past views on North Indians. They fear a partnership with the MNS could hurt their standing with core voters.
Ramesh Chennithala stated the party is ready to challenge both the BJP and the Thackerays. Uddhav Thackeray reacted calmly to this decision. He said, "The Congress has made its stand clear. What can I say on this? I am not commenting on what others are saying." This choice creates a three-way battle for control of the BMC.
Congress is using a strategy of benign neglect toward its former partners. By going solo, they avoid the baggage of regional identity politics. This positions them as the only national choice for cosmopolitan residents. They want to attract voters who feel ignored by the intense Marathi-first focus. This move keeps the Congress brand clean for future national elections while testing its local strength.
