Sunil-Narine-Sets-New-IPL-Record-Amidst-KKR’s-Loss-Against-Punjab-KingsSunil Narine Shatters IPL Record for Most Wickets Against Punjab Kings

While Punjab Kings underwent significant changes in the off-season, opting for fresh leadership and revamping their roster, certain constants remain. Sunil Narine has proven an impossible task for the franchise regardless of personnel, routinely terrorising them with some of his finest IPL performances.

Narine’s spell of 2/14 in three economical overs earlier in the day reinforced his dominance of PBKS, helping him surpass Umesh Yadav to become the all-time leading wicket-taker against a single opponent in the tournament's history.

The finest figures and only hat-trick both came at Punjab's expense, a fact that holds true no matter how the team is composed between seasons. Some opponents simply bring out a player's best, and for Narine, PBKS has always been an ideal foil.

Sunil Narine Sets New IPL Record

Seasoned Kolkata Knight Riders spinner Sunil Narine placed his name on IPL history on April 15, 2025, with a record feat of being the bowler who has taken the maximum wickets off a single opposition. In the KKR fixture against Punjab Kings in Mullanpur, Narine sent packing Suryansh Shedge and Marco Jansen, in the process inching closer to 36 wickets against PBKS. It overtook the earlier record set by Umesh Yadav's 35 wickets, all against Punjab as well.

Narine's frugal spell of 2/14 from his three overs was pivotal in KKR keeping Punjab Kings to a meagre total of 111. Narine also became the joint third-highest wicket-taker in IPL history with a total of 187 wickets, equaling Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Although KKR lost the game, Narine's personal record is a remarkable milestone in his shining IPL career. His steady performance against PBKS through the years points to his proficiency and dominance over this specific rival.

Early Promise Turns Sour for PBKS

Punjab Kings skipper Shreyas Iyer chose to bat. His choice appeared to be the correct one when PBKS scored 39/0 in 3.1 overs. Twin strikes by Harshit Rana in his opening over stemmed the flow of runs for the home team. Punjab Kings were reduced to 42/3 and never came out of it. Harshit Rana and Ramandeep Singh shared three, an IPL record for a bowler-fielder combination.

Varun Chakaravarthy (2/21 in 4 overs) cut through the Australian pair Josh Inglis and Glen Maxwell with a precise googly. Narine's lusty blows propelled PBKS to 86/8. The final two combinations took them to 111, and for the second time in four days, KKR contained the home side for under 120. CSK managed 103/9 in 20 overs against KKR on April 11 in Chennai.

Conclusion

In spite of off-season Punjab Kings changes, Sunil Narine is still their constant thorn, his record-breaking wickets testifying to his consistent superiority. Though KKR lost, Narine's brilliant show and historic milestone reflect his key role and supremacy over PBKS.
