CreatesMS Dhoni Makes Milestone Moment With 150th Catch in the IPL

MS Dhoni has etched his name in IPL history once again. In Chennai Super Kings' IPL 2025 match against Punjab Kings, Dhoni became the first wicketkeeper to record 150 catches behind the stumps. He achieved this milestone in the 8th over when he caught a mistimed shot by Nehal Wadhera off R Ashwin's bowling.

Dhoni's Safe Hands Set New IPL Catch Record

MS Dhoni made history in the books during the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur (New Chandigarh) on Tuesday (April 8).

Dhoni was in action during the 8th over of the game after catching Nehal Wadhera off Ravichandran Ashwin's bowling. Wadhera tried a slog of the bowling of the great off-spinner but got a top edge instead. Dhoni was at his impeccable best behind the wickets and took a secure catch after moving back.

150 and Counting: Dhoni's Dominance as IPL's Top Gloveman

With the Catch, Dhoni put his name on the history pages since he was the first cricketer globally to have achieved 150 catches as a wicket-keeper in the IPL. Dhoni and Dinesh Karthik (137) are the sole glove men in IPL history with over 100 catches.

Overall, Dhoni has 154 catches in the IPL with four of them coming as a fielder. In the 2008 and 2009 seasons, Dhoni shared wicket-keeping duties with Parthiv Patel for the Super Kings. One catch of Dhoni as a non-wicket-keeper came in the 2008 IPL final against Rajasthan Royals in Navi Mumbai.

Dhoni took his 150th catch for the Super Kings across all competitions, 146 of them as a wicket-keeper. Suresh Raina is second on the franchise's list of catches. Dhoni holds the record for most wicket-keeper fielding dismissals in T20 cricket history with 221 catches and 90 stumpings. Quinton de Kock is second on the exclusive list with 305 dismissals. Dhoni had 91 India dismissals in T20I cricket, with only Quinton having more in the shortest international format.

Conclusion

MS Dhoni made history in the IPL, becoming the first wicketkeeper to achieve 150 catches, a reflection of his sustained ability. This was achieved in CSK's match against Punjab Kings in Mullanpur. Interestingly, only Dinesh Karthik has also crossed 100 IPL catches as a wicketkeeper, a reflection of Dhoni's unmatched dominance behind the stumps, where he has an incredible 146 catches for CSK alone.
