'Why Are You in Congress, Hypocrite?': Shashi Tharoor's Praise for PM Modi Ignites Internal Party Clash
Shashi Tharoor’s recent remarks in support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi are not well-received by the Congress leaders. The Thiruvananthapuram MP, while referring to a speech by the PM, said he was glad to attend it despite suffering from a cold and a cough. Congress leaders like Sandeep Dikshit and Supriya Shrinate have questioned Tharoor’s allegiance to Congress.
Congress Leaders Question Tharoor's Party Allegiance
The members of the Congress party strongly criticized Shashi Tharoor for his public appreciation of PM Modi. His remarks about a recent speech from the PM did not align with the Congress party's stance, prompting questions about Tharoor's true alignment and loyalty.
Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit called Tharoor a "hypocrite." He said, “I don’t think he knows a lot about the country… If, according to you, someone is doing good for the country by going against Congress’s policies, then you should follow those policies… Why are you in Congress? Is it only because you are an MP?” He further added that, “If you really feel that the BJP or PM Modi’s strategies are working better than the party you are in, then you should give an explanation.”

Another Congress leader, Supriya Shrinate, said she found nothing "praiseworthy" in the Prime Minister's speech. Tharoor, on the other hand, had praised Modi's speech that focused particularly on national progress and India's economic resilience. The Thiruvananthapuram MP has frequently been at odds with his own party.
BJP Backs Tharoor, Slams Congress's 'Intolerance'
The BJP strongly criticized the Congress party after it distanced itself from Shashi Tharoor's praise for Prime Minister Modi's speech. BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla attacked the Congress's emergency-era mindset regarding Tharoor. He suggested the party should be called the "Indira Nazi Congress," alleging dictatorial behavior.
Poonawalla claimed that Congress issues a "fatwa" against members, which applies to leaders who prioritize the national interest over family interests within the party. The BJP spokesperson argued that there is no place for democracy inside the Congress party. He further added that the party demonstrates an "intolerant mindset."
