Digital Connexion to Build Massive AI-Native Data Centre Cluster in Visakhapatnam by 2030
The chairman and managing director of Reliance Industries, Mukesh Ambani, has announced a massive investment of Rs. 98000 crore ($11 billion) in Andhra Pradesh by 2030. This project will be led by Digital Connexion, a joint venture between Brookfield, Reliance Industries, and US-based Digital Realty.
Recently, the companies also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board. It is reported that the AI-native data centres will spread across 400 acres in Visakhapatnam.
Visakhapatnam Emerges as India's Next AI Infrastructure Hub
Visakhapatnam is rapidly emerging as India's AI-native data centre campus hub. Digital Connexion aims to build 1 gigawatt (GW) of state-of-the-art AI-native data centre capacity.
The company's statement highlights that the data centres are purpose-built to support seamless AI workloads. These systems empower hyperscalers and enterprises with future-ready systems. This news follows Google's earlier announcement of a $15 billion AI hub investment in the same city. The state government is supporting this initiative through the Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board.
Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Chandrababu Naidu said, “Andhra Pradesh is entering a new era of technology-led growth, sustainability, and industrial resurgence. I welcome Reliance’s landmark investments, which align with our vision to make AP a global hub for AI innovation, renewable energy, and advanced manufacturing.”
He further added, “These projects will generate high-quality jobs, open new opportunities for our youth, and accelerate the state’s journey towards a cleaner and more prosperous future.”
Focus on Sustainable and AI-Ready Data Centre Ecosystem
Digital Connexion's data centres are designed for excellent performance, scalability, and sustainability. Most importantly, these facilities are engineered to support high-performance computing and AI workloads.
Their data centres make use of renewable energy, efficient designs, and advanced cooling systems, thereby ensuring all operations are sustainable. Reliance Industries is also developing a 6 GWp solar power project in Andhra Pradesh for clean energy supply. This power is dedicated to the upcoming AI infrastructure.
The company further highlighted that these centers will host the world's most advanced GPUs, TPUs, and AI processors. Additionally, the new campus is also set to feature high-density AI infrastructure and robust substations. The design ensures redundant power feeds and high rack densities to power the next decade of innovation and support future AI workloads.
