The National Democratic Alliance will formally launch its campaign for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly polls on Friday, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressing a major public rally in Madurantakam. The event marks the BJP-led alliance’s first large-scale mobilisation in Tamil Nadu and sets the tone for an aggressive challenge to the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam as the election season gathers momentum.

Madurantakam Rally Signals Alliance Unity

The rally, to be held along the busy Chennai–Tindivanam highway corridor, is expected to draw party workers and supporters from across Tamil Nadu. BJP Tamil Nadu state president and legislative party leader Nainar Nagenthran announced the programme, calling it the formal beginning of the NDA’s electoral campaign. Party leaders see the venue as strategically important for statewide outreach.

PM Modi to Share Stage With NDA Leaders

Senior leaders from NDA constituents, including the BJP, AIADMK, Tamil Maanila Congress, Pattali Makkal Katchi, and Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam, are expected to attend. Nainar Nagenthran said, “On January 23, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the NDA campaign in Madurantakam. He will participate in the meeting to send home the anti-people DMK government currently ruling Tamil Nadu.”

Questions Remain Over Final NDA Line-Up

Speculation continues over the participation of leaders such as TTV Dhinakaran, former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, and the DMDK. Nainar Nagenthran declined to confirm names, saying, “You can see that on the stage on January 23,” and adding that “all leaders will find a place on the stage.” He also defended AIADMK welfare promises amid criticism from the DMK.

Conclusion: High-Stakes Start to Tamil Nadu Battle

The Madurantakam rally shows the same pattern which previous NDA campaign launches displayed in Tamil Nadu through their early demonstration of unity for energizing their party members.

The alliance wants to secure immediate backing from voters through Narendra Modi's campaign launch at their first event. The event matters now as it offers the first clear signal of NDA cohesion, leadership presence, and electoral intent ahead of a closely watched contest.
