Asia Cup U19 Final
Pakistan U19 posted a mammoth score of 347-8, courtesy of 172 by Sameer Minhas. Later, the Boys in Green bowled out India for 156 to pick up a crushing win. Sameer Minhas scored 172 runs off just 113 balls.
India’s response did not go as planned. Openers Ayush Mhatre and Vaibhav Suryavanshi were expected to shoulder the responsibility in the big final. India made a promising start, collecting 32 runs off the first two overs. But the innings unravelled quickly after the loss of skipper Ayush Mhatre in the third. In an attempt to keep pace with the steep asking rate, India forced the issue and played too many ambitious strokes, leading to a steady loss of wickets.
Reduced to 68/5 by the end of the Powerplay, the boys in blue never recovered. The rest of the batting order offered little resistance, even as Pakistan shelled a couple of chances in the field. Deepesh Devendran’s late cameo only delayed the inevitable, as Pakistan sealed a massive 191-run victory.
Final Thoughts
The senior team lost to the Suryakumar Yadav-led side in the tournament earlier this year, but the juniors played exceptionally well and ended the year as Asian Champions. This is Pakistan’s first outright title in the Men’s U-19 Asia Cup and their first since being joint winners with India in 2013.
