Seasonal Teacher Mohammad Yousuf Katari from Kulgam District Caught for Helping Terrorists in Pahalgam Terror Attack
Jammu and Kashmir police have arrested Mohammad Yousuf Katari, a 26-year-old seasonal teacher who was associated with the Pahalgam attack on 22 April 2025. He provided logistic support to the terrorists. Katari was arrested after conducting a forensic analysis of the weapons that were seized during “Operation Mahadev.”
About Operation Mahadev
Operation Mahadev was initiated on 22 May 2025 to track down all the terrorists associated with the Pahalgam attack. It was a joint operation that involved the Indian Army, the Jammu and Kashmir police, and the CRPF. The operation was decided after a high-level security meeting was held to ensure that the terrorists do not escape India.
The Pahalgam terrorists were caught in the Dachigam forest area near Srinagar, marking the success of Operation Mahadev. Confirming the arrest, the officials said, “Terrorists killed in Operation Mahadev were involved in the Pahalgam terror attack. The arrested individual had provided them logistical support.”
In the Srinagar encounter, three terrorists, including Sulieman, were killed on 29 July 2025. Sulieman is said to be the mastermind behind the Pahalgam terror attack, where 26 tourists were killed. Jibran and Hamza Afghani are the names of the other two terrorists; the former was associated with the Sonamarg Tunnel attack in October 2024.
Pahalgam Terror Attack & Operation Sindoor
Terrorists from Pakistan killed 26 tourists near Baisaran Valley, a tourist attraction in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Most of these victims were men. It was reported that the terrorists had asked these men about their religion before shooting them. These terrorists were from a Pakistani-based terror group, Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
The terror attack made the Indian government take strict actions against Pakistan, such as suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, closure of the Attari check post, and putting visa restrictions on Pakistani citizens. This was not all; the Indian Army and Air Force conducted “Operation Sindoor” to eliminate terrorist infrastructure located in Pakistan.
During this operation, terrorist bases, including Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), and Hizbul Mujahideen, were hit. Operation Sindoor was successful as it destroyed key logistical and training infrastructure used by the terrorists.
