Kul Man Ghising was previously the CEO of the Nepal Electricity Board. He is now said to be the next ideal candidate for the interim Prime Minister of Nepal. Ghising was selected by the country’s Gen Z group on Thursday.

Sushila Karki and Balen Shah were also favored by the youth; however, both leaders decided to step aside. The selection procedure for the interim Prime Minister of Nepal began immediately after two days of KP Sharma Oli’s resignation.

Who is Kul Man Ghising?

Kul Man Ghising is an electrical engineer who is widely known for ending the electricity shutdown in Nepal. He pursued his degree at the Regional Institute of Technology in Jamshedpur, India, and then completed his master’s in power systems in Nepal.

After completing his education, Ghising started working at the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) in 1991. Owing to his decades of hard work and dedication, the NEA promoted him to its managing director in 2016. During this time, he became well-known throughout Nepal for eliminating 18-hour daily load sheds.

Kulman was replaced by the Oli government in 2025 by Hitendra Dev Shakya as managing director of NEA just four months before his official contract ended. The Nepalese were hurt by the government’s decision and harshly condemned their administration, citing Ghulsing's contribution in solving a major electricity crisis.

Sushila Karki & Balen Shah Step Aside

Sushila Karki, a former Chief Justice, known for her bold stance against corruption in Nepal, was supported by Gen Z for the PM position. Karki was previously seen admiring PM Modi, and also promised an improvement in the relations between India and Nepal.

However, for unknown reasons, she decided to withdraw from this post. Additionally, Balen Shah, a mayor in Kathmandu, who was also a major candidate for the role of interim PM of Nepal, stepped aside.

Overall, Nepal's political state remains volatile, with Gen Z having difficulty in choosing the ideal Interim Prime Minister. Amidst all this, Kul Man Ghising is now emerging as a strong candidate for this role owing to his past contributions.
