Maharashtra Cabinet Greenlights INR 22,862 Crore Metro Line 8 to Link Mumbai and Navi Mumbai Airports
The Maharashtra government has officially approved the Mumbai Navi Mumbai Airport Metro project. This new rail line will be 35 kilometers long and will connect the city’s two main airports. It is a massive project that will cost over INR 22,862 crore to build. Travelers can currently spend up to two hours in traffic between these hubs, but this Gold Line will cut that journey down to just 30 minutes.
Faster Travel: How the Gold Line Works
This project is also known as Metro Line 8. It is designed to be much faster than the regular metro lines we use today. About 9 kilometers of the track will be built underground near the existing Mumbai airport. The rest of the track, nearly 25 kilometers, will be elevated on high pillars above the ground.
The government wants to finish buying the land for the tracks within the next six months. This line is special as it will have fewer stops, which helps the trains maintain high speeds. It will stop at important places like Ghatkopar, Kurla, and Vashi. These stops are key as they let passengers switch from the old local trains to the new high-speed airport metro easily.
The Mumbai Navi Mumbai Airport Metro Impact
The Mumbai Navi Mumbai Airport Metro will basically change how people live and work in the city. Many families may choose to move to Navi Mumbai as the commute to central Mumbai will finally be fast and easy. This could raise the rent and home prices in areas like Mankhurd and Kanjurmarg, as people will prefer to live near the new stations.
Local businesses will also see a big change. New hotels, offices, and shops will likely open near the stations in Navi Mumbai. This creates many new jobs for people living in those neighborhoods. Also, the regular local trains on the Harbour Line are often very crowded. This new metro will give workers another way to travel, which means the old trains might finally become less packed and more comfortable for everyone.
The construction of this metro is a huge step toward making Mumbai a well-connected city. The government has set a tight three-year goal to finish the work. If they succeed, traveling between the twin cities will be as easy as it is in London or Dubai. The next few years will be busy with construction, but the result will be a much more connected and faster Mumbai for everyone.
