Meta Takes Action against Internal Information Leak
Meta has taken strict action against leaks and fired almost 20 employees for violating company policies since they leaked confidential information, said the Meta boss on social media. And, as per the AFP, the report said that there could be a probability of more firings.
A Meta spokesperson added, “We tell employees when they join the company, and we offer periodic reminders that it is against our policies to leak internal information, no matter the intent,” continuing with, "We recently conducted an investigation that resulted in roughly 20 employees being terminated for sharing confidential information outside the company, and we expect there will be more,” the company added.
Andrew Bosworth, Meta CTO, in an earlier meeting this month, mentioned the “leaks” in the company; he added, “When things leak, I think a lot of time people think, ‘Ah okay, this is leaked, therefore it’ll put pressure on us to change things.” The opposite is more likely to happen. He also posted, “As predicted, the entirety of today’s Q&A leaked.” It sounds like someone just gave the entire audio feed to a journalist.
This decision came as META, the tech giant, faced surveys over Mark Zuckerberg for shifting political stances towards US President Donald Trump.
Mark Zuckerberg’s reaction says, “IT SUCKS.”
What’s Next for Meta
According to the latest reports, Mark Zuckerberg was frustrated over the situation. He mentioned, “We try to be really open, and then everything I say leaks. It sucks.” He also urged employees to buckle up for the upcoming challenges for the next few days.
Meta employees might face more uncertainties since further layoffs are expected after the report. Since increasing political influence, it is suggested that the company tighten the grip of their internal policies after the latest actions from the employees. The company's main aim here is to prevent the details from becoming public.
Meta to face political pressures
After the current incident, Meta, the social media giant, also faces political pressure due to recent political shifts between Meta’s boss Mark Zuckerberg and President Donald Trump.
Tech leaders worldwide have fallen in line since Trump won the presidential election in November, with Mark Zuckerberg turning towards the Republican Party since his return to the office.
Donald Trump has threatened the tech tycoon last summer with life imprisonment since META excluded the US President from its Facebook in 2021, encouraging assault on the Capitol.
