PureSpeed launch: 585hp V8 power in Mythos series, combines luxury, and heritage

Luxury automobile maker, Mercedes-AMG has unveiled the PureSpeed, the first model in its Mythos series of low-volume production cars. Limited to just 250 units, the PureSpeed celebrates Mercedes’ racing legacy with a unique design and powerful performance. The vehicle debuted at the Abu Dhabi GP, following its concept reveal at the Monaco GP earlier this year.

Performance of V8 Engine without Electrification

Primarily, PureSpeed can be distinguished as the company’s commitment to conventional powertrain. It is powered by a biturbo 4.0-liter V8 engine capable of producing 585HP and 590 lb/ft torque. It comes linked to a 9G MCT transmission and 4Matic all-wheel drive, enabling the car to achieve 0-62mph acceleration in 3.6 seconds and a maximum speed of 195mph. However, even with Mercedes’ hybrid capability, the PureSpeed, is a purely combustion-engine car.

Radical Design and Safety Features

The PureSpeed comes outfitted with an incredibly innovative open cockpit design, with no roof or windscreen. It has a HALO system, a tubular steel bracket that enhances safety by integrating with the car’s structure and protect passengers in the event of a crash. Additional, roll-over protection comes from concealed rigid roll bars. Moreover, the drivers and passengers will use custom-designed helmets equipped with intercoms and smartphone connectivity.

Aerodynamics are an important facet in the design of the PureSpeed. Features include shark-nose front end, carbon fibre rear diffuser and boot lid spoiler, and 21-inch forged aluminium wheels with carbon fibre covers. The Le Mans red paint and the number 10 on the front wing are inspired by Mercedes’ victory at the Targa Florio race 100 years ago.

Luxurious Interior and Exclusive Features

Inside, the PureSpeed  combines luxury and exclusivity. The PureSpeed features AMG Performance seats, the interior from dashboard to door is in leather with decorative stitching and the centre console features LED lighting that displays the HALO system. A backlit AMG emblem and a personalised IWC analogue time surrounded by a wooden panel further improve its opulence. Each car a unique badge lablled  “1 out of 250”.

CEO Michael Schiebe said, “Thanks to the car’s radically open design with no roof or windscreen, nothing separates the driver and passenger from the elements, allowing them to fully appreciate the vehicle, the road and the landscape with all their senses.”

The Mercedes PureSpeed is yet to release its price tag. However, it is expected to  go up to £400, 000 which is double the price for the current most costly SL model. The sutomonilbe enthusiasts can expect PureSpeed to unveil an unrivaled combination of raching heritage and modern engineering.
