Mumbai Police Sent Look Out Circular Against Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra in Rs. 60 Crore Fraud Case
The Rs. 60 crore fraud case against Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra, which is currently trending, has caused the Mumbai police to issue a lookout circular. The notice restricts the Bollywood couple from leaving India until a court grants permission. Deepak Kothari filed the case against them in 2015.
What did the Mumbai Police Say?
A senior official from the Mumbai police department has said that the couple frequently travels to different countries; therefore, it is necessary to issue this ‘look out’ circular against them. The official added that the LoC is required to make the proceedings flow smoothly.
The notice came shortly after the Rs. 60 crore fraud case was filed by the Mumbai Police's Economic Offences Wing (EOW) on 14 August.
What are Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra Accused of?
The case was first registered in 2015, when a businessman named Deepak Kothari accused Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra of defrauding him. He says the couple took money from him to expand their businesses, but later, it was found that they had used the sum to fulfil their personal goals. As per the complaint, the couple committed a fraud of Rs. 60 crore.
The case witnessed a long silence until recently, when their restaurant at Bandra, Bastian, was closed alongside their company, Best Deal TV Private Limited. The company is said to have been associated with the fraud case.
Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra Reject Accusations
Prashant Patil, an advocate of Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra, has dismissed all Deepak Kothari's allegations, saying that the payment was an “old transaction.” Furthermore, their client’s company went into a financial crisis and subsequently got involved in a legal battle at the NCLT.
He also said, “There is no criminality involved and our auditors have submitted all the necessary supporting documents from time to time, as requested by the EOW, including detailed cash flow statements.”
To sum up, Shilpa Shetty’s lawyer has rejected Deepak Kothari's accusations, calling them ‘baseless’ and ‘malicious’. However, Kothari, on the other hand, stands firm with his accusations of fraud. Amidst all this controversy, the Mumbai Police issued a notice against the celebrity couple to ensure smoother proceedings.
