India launches Operation Sindoor to strike back at terror camps in Pakistan and PoK
In a daring and calculated operation, India struck multiple terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) on May 6, 2025, under ‘Operation Sindoor.’
The attack was in revenge for a 26-civilian death terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, Jammu & Kashmir, where mainly Hindu pilgrims were either killed or injured. This is India’s largest cross-border operation in almost five decades.
Precision Strikes on Nine Targets
Nine strategic targets linked with terror groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen were precision-targeted by the defence, defence sources state.
These involved terrorist infrastructure at Muzaffarabad, Koti, and Bahawalpur, which is notorious Lashkar territory. The Indian Air Force carried out SCALP and Hammer missile strikes from Rafale aircraft that had pinpoint precision without crossing over Pakistani airspace.
The Indian Navy and Army were instrumental in supporting this tri-service exercise, reflecting a high degree of coordination and readiness.
Minimal Collateral Damage Claimed
Indian defence authorities asserted that the operation was carried out with ‘surgical precision’ to reduce civilian casualties. Pakistani authorities, however, reported at least eight deaths, including a child, and more than 35 injuries. One of the locations struck was the Bilal Mosque in Muzaffarabad, which created fears of collateral damage and civilian damage.
Pakistan has denounced the strikes as an ‘act of war.’ In contrast, Indian authorities insisted that the action was a ‘measured response’ to take down terror infrastructure and not aimed at the Pakistani state.
Pahalgam Attack Triggered the Offensive
The catalyst for the operation was the April 22 Pahalgam carnage in which heavily armed terrorists attacked tourists in Baisaran valley. The attack sent the country into shock and created mounting demands for a strong military action. Based on internal security assessments and intelligence reports, the Cabinet Committee on Security sanctioned Operation Sindoor.
Increasing LoC Tensions
As a retaliatory measure, Pakistan began shelling along the Line of Control (LoC), which caused further civilian injuries in border villages. Reinforcements have been dispatched to vulnerable areas, and Indian forces are on high alert.
Diplomatic moves are on to defuse the situation. The UN Secretary-General and leaders from the United States, France, and Russia have called upon both countries to exercise restraint and not to escalate matters further.
India’s Message: Zero Tolerance towards Terror
Operation Sindoor sends a powerful geopolitical signal: India will no longer take terror strikes lying down. The operation has met great domestic acclaim, though international reactions are divided. While both countries bolster defenses along their borders, the world watches nervously, hoping the crisis does not escalate into a broader conflict.
