Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer has shared a major update on his recovery following a near-fatal injury that had left fans deeply concerned. In a social media post, Iyer thanked fans for their prayers and assured them that he is on the road to full fitness.

Shreyas Iyer Health Update

On Monday (November 10), Iyer offered an encouraging health update after undergoing surgery and wrote on Instagram story: "Sun's been a great therapy. Grateful to be back, Thanks for all the love and care."

He posted a picture of himself sunbathing at the beach with a friend.

Shreyas Iyer Injury

The Indian batter took a splendid running catch to dismiss Alex Carey in the third ODI against Australia in Sydney on October 25, but landed awkwardly. The 30-year-old was taken off the field after being in visible pain.

Earlier this month, the BCCI had issued a detailed medical bulletin on Shreyas' condition, saying his condition was closely monitored through the combined efforts of Sydney-based Dr Kouroush Haghigi’s team and Indian specialist Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala

BCCI informed: “Shreyas Iyer sustained a blunt injury to his abdomen while fielding during the third ODI against Australia on 25 October 2025, resulting in a laceration of his spleen with internal bleeding.”

“The injury was promptly identified, and the bleeding was immediately arrested following a minor procedure. He has undergone appropriate medical management for the same,” the statement added.

While Shreyas was granted discharge on November 1, he stayed in Australia for a few days before he was given medical permission to fly out of the country.

Shreyas Iyer Comeback

Iyer was named vice-captain for the series, but now remains doubtful for the upcoming assignments of the Indian team against South Africa on home soil. Shreyas is believed to be out of action for at least three months.

After South Africa, India will play a white-ball series against New Zealand, also at home. Iyer would be looking to make a comeback against the Kiwis in the three-ODI series, which will be followed by a five-match T20I series.

The right-handed batter scored a half-century for India in the second ODI against Australia, at Adelaide Oval on November 23, and did not bat for the third ODI.

Shreyas has taken a break from red-ball cricket, and he is not part of the T20I set-up yet. It remains to be seen if he can make a comeback in the shorter format for the 2026 T20 World Cup.
