Glenn-Maxwell-Likely-Out-of-IPL-2025-with-Fractured-Finger  IWPunjab Kings Face Maxwell Setback Ahead of Crucial Matches

Punjab Kings’ Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell is ‘likely’ out of the Indian Premier League’s remaining matches after fracturing his finger. Shreyas Iyer, Punjab Kings captain, confirmed the injury at the toss ahead of the game against Chennai Super Kings on April 30, 2025.

Although the Punjab Kings have not yet made a decision regarding their replacements, they are optimistic about the team's mentality and their roster.

“It’s very unfortunate that he’s got a fractured finger,” said Shreyas Iyer at the toss.

Maxwell's Fractured Finger Deals Blow to Punjab Kings' Playoff Hopes

The injury confirmation was given by Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer during the toss for their next match against the Chennai Super Kings on April 30th. Iyer referred to the scenario as "very unfortunate" and stated that the team had yet to decide on a replacement, heavily implying Maxwell's absence for the remainder of the season.

To this, Maxwell's Australian teammate Marcus Stoinis shared more information regarding the injury. Talking to Jiostar before CSK's match, Stoinis stated Maxwell didn't at first think the injury was too severe, but scans later on confirmed the dismal fracture. He further added, "Unfortunately for Maxi, I think it's likely he's out for the tournament."

This is a huge setback for Punjab Kings, who are currently ranked fifth in the league position with five victories from nine games and need to end up in the playoffs.

Maxwell, even though he has had an understated season with just 48 runs in six innings, is an integral player with his big-hitting capability and useful off-spin bowling.

Punjab Kings Scrambles for Replacement as Ponting Eyes Local Talent

Head coach Ricky Ponting accepted the loss and said that the franchise is actively searching for a replacement.

Nevertheless, he noted that it may be difficult to find a good, high-quality replacement because of the current Pakistan Super League. Ponting also suggested that they might sign an Indian player to cover the gap. He stated that the squad has until their 12th game to conclude a replacement and is also scouting some young Indian prospects who have been training with the team.

Maxwell's comeback to Punjab Kings this season was awaited with bated breath, given his historic tenure with the team 11 seasons back. Though he failed to match those heights this season, his absence will surely affect the team's balance and firepower for the remaining games. Punjab Kings will have to think strategically and identify a replacement for themselves at the earliest to sustain their momentum and strive for a playoff spot in IPL 2025.

Conclusion

Glenn Maxwell's probable absence because of a broken finger is a major blow to Punjab Kings' chances in the playoffs. The franchise is now racing against time to find an appropriate substitute to continue their momentum in IPL 2025.
