Fadnavis Warns Local BJP Units Over Alliances With Congress and AIMIM, Calls this Breach of Discipline Unacceptable
Maharashtra politics took a surprising turn this week as the Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis labeled unauthorized local alliances with Congress and AIMIM “absolutely unacceptable.” The BJP Congress alliance has sparked a major political controversy.
Local BJP units in Ambernath and Akot bypassed state leadership to form governing blocks with their ideological rivals. The move aimed to specifically sideline their own state-level ally, the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena. Fadnavis has issued a stern ultimatum to dissolve these unethical arrangements immediately. He also warned that any leader who refuses will face strict punishment or suspension.
Local Leaders Defy Party Orders for Power
The situation in Ambernath reveals a deep divide. Local BJP members teamed up with Congress and NCP to form a new alliance called the "Ambernath Vikas Aghadi." This move allowed them to appoint a BJP president.
However, it also pushed out their own state-level ally, the Shiv Sena led by Eknath Shinde. This local rebellion shows the frustration of party workers, as many feel they are losing influence to their coalition partners. In Akot, the BJP even worked with the AIMIM, shocking many, since the two parties have divergent core beliefs.
Fadnavis responded to the alliance, saying, “The BJP can never form an alliance with the Congress or the AIMIM. Such alliances are unacceptable and will not be tolerated.”
He also warned that, “If any local BJP leaders have entered into alliances with these parties (AIMIM, Congress) without approval, it is a serious breach of party discipline and strict action will be taken.” The CM further emphasized that, “Any decision taken unilaterally by local leaders is wrong in terms of discipline.”
Why Did Local Units Risk the Fadnavis BJP Congress Alliance?
The question of the hour is what prompted the local leaders to risk their jobs and make an alliance with rival parties. The answer is simple: power control. The Shinde-led Shiv Sena has governed several areas for a long time. This made the local BJP workers feel ignored and believe that they could not win while tied to their state allies.
By forming the BJP Congress alliance at the local level, they were able to take control of local budgets and projects. The party workers chose local power over the orders of their top leaders in Mumbai.
This crisis shows a major crack in the state’s ruling alliance. It proves that local leaders care more about their own towns than big party deals. If the BJP fails to align with its members now, the party might face major issues in the 2026 Mumbai elections. Local businesses and voters are watching the power shift closely, pushing Fadnavis to act quickly and fix the internal strife.
