Dhurandhar: The Revenge Moves Platforms as JioHotstar Wins Bidding
Dhurandhar 2, officially titled Dhurandhar: The Revenge, will stream on JioHotstar after its theatrical run, marking a shift from Netflix, which hosted the first film. The poster released on Tuesday confirmed JioHotstar as the streaming partner.
The sequel to Aditya Dhar’s action drama is set to release in theatres on March 19 and ranks among the most anticipated Indian releases of the year.
Competitive Bidding Secures OTT Rights
A source close to the development told India Today that OTT deals are decided through competitive bidding. “Dhurandhar 2 is highly awaited by fans and has already been declared a blockbuster by traders.
Given the buzz and interest around the film, it’s obvious that all platforms would’ve wanted it in their library. JioHotstar clearly beat Netflix to it this time,” the source said, citing a higher financial value for the deal.
Likely Streaming Window and Platform Strategy
Industry practice suggests an eight-week window between theatrical release and streaming debut. The movie Dhurandhar The Revenge will become available on JioHotstar on May 14, according to the established release schedule.
Trade analysts note that premium Hindi films have become key growth drivers for OTT platforms because exclusive premieres increase subscriptions and viewing time during the post-theatrical release period.
Music Rights Shift from Saregama to T-Series
The sequel introduces a different approach to musical collaborations. While Saregama released the soundtrack for DhurandharT-Series has acquired the music rights for Dhurandhar 2.
Starring Ranveer Singh alongside Sara Arjun, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, Akshaye Khanna, and R Madhavan. The first film ranked among the highest-grossing Indian releases, strengthening franchise expectations.
Why the Shift Matters Now
The move from Netflix to JioHotstar reflects rising competition for premium Indian content, similar to recent bidding wars for blockbuster sequels. The commercial success of Dhurandhar 2 exceeds that of its predecessor as the film has already achieved box office success, and the franchise shows growing popularity.
Analysts expect more aggressive OTT deals for big-ticket titles, shaping distribution strategies and release economics across the industry in 2026.
