A DNA test has confirmed that Dr Umar Un Nabi, a 35-year-old doctor from Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir, was the man behind the wheel of the car that exploded near Delhi’s Red Fort. The blast took place on Monday evening and shook the high-security area.

DNA Confirms Driver’s Identity

Police found a burnt leg stuck between the steering wheel and the accelerator of the white Hyundai i20. Forensic experts tested the DNA from the leg and matched it with samples from Nabi’s mother and brother in Pulwama. This confirmed that he was driving the car when it exploded.

Dr Umar worked as an assistant professor at Al Falah University in Faridabad. He had bought the Hyundai i20 just 11 days before the blast. Police found that he was in touch with two other doctors, Dr Muzammil Shakeel Ganaie and Dr Adeel Rather, who were arrested in Jammu and Kashmir last week. The two were caught with over 2,900 kg of ammonium nitrate, detonators, timers, and rifles in Faridabad.

CCTV Footage and Links to Larger Terror Plot

CCTV footage showed Dr Umar driving through several areas of Delhi before the explosion. He was seen near the Badarpur Border, Connaught Place, Turkman Gate, and then close to the Red Fort. Around 6:50 pm, his car blew up near the Red Fort Metro Station. At least nine people died, and many others were injured.

Police said Nabi had bought the car from a Faridabad dealer. Another vehicle linked to him, a red Ford EcoSport, was later found and is believed to have been used to move explosives. Investigators said both cars played a role in the larger plan.

The police now believe that the blast was part of a bigger terror plot run by a group of educated people, including doctors. This group may have been preparing to carry out more attacks. Officials said the case has been handed over to national agencies for a deeper investigation.

Security has been increased in Delhi, especially near important government buildings and monuments. Experts are checking all clues from the blast site to track everyone linked to the case.

The DNA test has given the investigation a breakthrough. It confirmed that Dr Umar Un Nabi was behind the wheel during the blast and helped police connect him directly to the terror network. Investigators are now trying to find out how the explosives were gathered and who else was involved.
