The case surfaced after pro-Pakistan and pro-terror posters appeared at Janpath Metro Station and other locations. After conducting raids in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, authorities arrested eight operatives, who included seven Bangladeshi nationals. The investigators established that Lone had indoctrinated Umar Faruk in March 2025 to lead Indian operations. Under instructions, a Kolkata hideout was rented, and efforts began to source weapons. Officials said reconnaissance of key installations had already been conducted.

Police stated that Lone, originally from Srinagar, fled to Bangladesh after release from Tihar Jail in 2018. He allegedly worked to revive Lashkar-e-Taiba sleeper cells with support from Pakistan’s ISI. Lone was previously arrested in 2007 in an arms recovery case and faces proceedings under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
