Deepika Padukone’s Exit from Kalki 2, Despite Playing the Lead Role in the First Part, Has Stirred Up Controversies

The movie makers of Kalki 2898 AD 2 recently announced Deepika Padukone’s exit from the movie, despite the actress having shot some 20-minute scenes. A source close to the movie’s production house mentioned that Deepika’s new demands for the Kalki sequel could not be accommodated by the movie makers, cementing the decision to let her go.. 

Why Was Deepika Padukone Removed from Kalki 2?

An announcement from Vyjayanthi Movies came at X (previously Twitter) regarding Deepika Padukone's departure from Kalki 2. It said, “This is to officially announce that @deepikapadukone will not be a part of the upcoming sequel of #Kalki2898AD. After careful consideration, we have decided to part ways.”

Additionally, the post said, “Despite the long journey of making the first film, we were unable to find a partnership. And a film like @Kalki2898AD deserves that commitment and much more. We wish her the best with her future projects.”

Sources associated with the Kalki production house revealed that the actress put forward several demands that the production house was unable to fulfil. Padukone demanded a 25% hike in her salary, reduced work hours, and a share in the movie's overall profit. The movie makers tried to persuade her by mentioning that the lead star, Prabhas, also did not ask for a hike. However, the team found it difficult to convince her, and were left with no choice but to let her go.

Deepika Padukone Starts Shooting for Shah Rukh Khan Starrer ‘King’

A few days after Kalki 2 makers announced Deepika’s exist from the movie, the actress shared an exciting news that she has started shooting for Shah Rukh Khan starrer ‘King’ in a post on Instagram, which added, “The very first lesson he taught me almost 18 years ago while filming Om Shanti Om was that the experience of making a movie, and the people you make it with, matter far more than its success.”

She further added, “I couldn’t agree more and have applied that learning to every decision I’ve made since. And that’s probably why we’re back making our 6th movie together?”

Overall, it is clear that Deepika Padukone won’t appear in Kalki 2898 AD 2. While the fans are saddened by the announcement, they are also eagerly awaiting her replacement in the movie. The movie makers, however, haven’t disclosed any information about who will be replacing her.
