Just a few hours after the initiation of Operation Sindoor by India, Pakistan tried to hit the URI Hydroelectric Plant, which is in proximity to the Line of Control (LoC). According to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), reported that the attack was successfully foiled with no damage to the installations.

The CISF operatives remained on high alert, neutralising drones and protecting vital infrastructure. This was a demonstration of their preparedness during the tense period of the Pakistan-India clash.

Heroic Efforts of CISF Personnel

The CISF statement highlighted the bravery of 19 personnel deployed at the Uri Hydro Electric Power Projects (UHEP-I and II). Under the leadership of Commandant Ravi Yadav, the team undertook protective measures, secured armoury stockpiles, and evacuated civilians despite heavy gunfire.

“During the most volatile phases of the exchange, CISF troops neutralised hostile drones targeting the installations and ensured the safety of NHPC staff and families,” the statement said.

Strategic Importance of Uri Hydro Projects

Situated just a few kilometres from the Pakistan LoC, the Uri hydroelectric projects are critical national assets. An officer familiar with the incident said, “The Uri projects were among the first to be targeted. The intelligence network was strong, and the troops were prepared.

Not only were drones shot down, but a massive evacuation was also conducted without any loss of life.” The attack underscores the vulnerability of strategic installations near the LoC.

Recognition for CISF Bravery

In recognition of their courage and vigilance, the 19 personnel were awarded the Director General’s disc at a ceremony in CISF headquarters in New Delhi. The measures taken not only saved the plant from destruction but also safeguarded civilians in the surrounding township.

This shows the importance of CISF in protecting India's infrastructure during border conflicts like the Pakistan LoC attack.

Conclusion: Lessons From Operation Sindoor

The foiled attack on the Uri Hydroelectric Plant is just one of the many issues that India has to face along the LoC. The extracted parallels with past attacks on Indian facilities point to the need for continuous readiness and intelligence collaboration.

Moreover, the incident has substantiated the role of the military in securing both the civilians and strategic assets to the extent that operations like Operation Sindoor can proceed without escalating damage on Indian soil. Vigilance, preparedness, and rapid response remain key to national security.
