Gangster Chandan Mishra Gunned Down Inside Patna Hospital Room by 5 Shooters in Broad Daylight
Gangster Chandan Mishra was shot dead by five gun-wielding attackers within Patna’s Paras Hospital on Thursday morning. The surprise attack raises significant questions about hospital security and parole procedures for prisoners. The ambush, caught on CCTV, is seemingly an aftermath of a long-standing gang war.
CCTV Footage Captures Chilling Execution
The chilling video shows five men casually walking down the hospital corridor before pulling guns from beneath their shirts. They enter Room 209, where Mishra, also known as Chandan Singh, was admitted under medical parole, and open fire within seconds. One of the men struggles briefly as his gun gets jammed in his shirt, but he eventually makes it into the room as well.
As four of the shooters are observed running back shortly afterward, the fifth one, who had entered first, leaves calmly and even looks a man in the eye who pokes his head out from a nearby room after witnessing the firing. The CCTV grab, circulated extensively on social media, was authenticated as genuine by police sources.
Hospital on High Alert, Panic Grips Patients
The gunfire sparked chaos and panic among the patients and staff at the upscale private hospital near Raja Bazar, within the jurisdiction of the Shastri Nagar police station. The police arrived on the scene within minutes and secured the area. Bullet casings were discovered at the location where Mishra was killed.
Murder Linked to Gang Rivalry, Recce Suspected
An early report indicates that the targeted killing occurred following a thorough reconnaissance. "Unknown individuals within Paras Hospital killed Chandan Mishra. At first glance, it appears to be a result of gang rivalry," stated Patna SSP Kartikey K. Sharma. IG Jitendra Rana further mentioned that the police are investigating whether hospital security or the police guards assigned to Mishra's protection were involved in the murder.
Notorious Gangster With 20+ Cases
Mishra, who hails from Buxar, was facing a life sentence for murdering businessman Rajendra Keshri in 2011. His sentence was reduced from death to life imprisonment by the Patna High Court in 2020. He was detained in Beur Central Jail but had been given a 15-day parole for treatment, which expired on July 18.
Remembered for his association with interstate gold robber Santosh Singh, Mishra had more than 20 criminal cases pending against him, which included murder, bank robberies, and dacoity cases. He was arrested in 2014 by Bihar’s STF from Kolkata and has since been shifted between various jails.
Police Launch Probe, One Suspect Held
A forensic team and canine unit were deployed to assist with the investigation. According to reports, one of the suspects was identified and taken into custody by Thursday night. The police are currently reviewing CCTV footage from various angles and are not ruling out the possibility of collusion from within the facility.
The daylight murder at the hospital has reignited discussions about the law and order situation in Bihar.
