‘Comrade Vijayan’ Signature in Bomb Threat Email Sends Shockwaves Through BSE, Golden Temple
A bomb threat sent to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) via email on Tuesday morning left officials in a panic, prompting a swift security response. The threat stated that four RDX-filled IEDs were placed within the building and would detonate at 3 PM.
The email, which was sent by an ID named ‘Comrade Pinarayi Vijayan’, left the BSE officials in instant action, and they notified the Mumbai Police.
Quick Response, Nothing Suspicious Found at BS
The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) and police units from the locality immediately arrived at BSE’s Fort premises and initiated a thorough search operation. The building was locked down and searched thoroughly.
No explosives were detected, police confirmed after a couple of hours. “Nothing suspicious was detected in the search,” a spokesperson noted.
Police registered a case at Mata Ramabai Ambedkar Marg Police Station despite the hoax. Charges were made under sections 351(1)(b), 353(2), 351(3), and 351(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Cybercrime investigators have also joined the investigation to track the origin of the email.
Golden Temple Receives Same Bomb Threat
A day before this, a threat was received on the lines of Amritsar’s Golden Temple. The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) filed a police complaint after it received an email threatening a bomb blast at the sacred shrine.
Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar verified the threat and stated that an investigation is in progress. “We are coordinating with cybercrime and state agencies to identify the source of the email,” he added.
Security has been increased around the Golden Temple. Although no object of suspicion has been discovered yet, the police are on their toes.
Attention Now on Cyber Trail, Security Alert
With both threats turning out to be false alarms, investigators are now focusing on following the cyber trail. Forensic experts are scrutinizing digital evidence to trace the sender and motive.
The attacks are an alarming increase in cyber-facilitated threats to cause panic and disruption. The authorities have stepped up surveillance and cyber monitoring as preventive measures. Both cities have returned to normal, but the police add that caution will continue over the next few days.
