BJP 2 .0 Party Gears Up for Historic Move With Woman at Helm

Next national president likely to be a woman as BJP eyes fresh image, wider voter base

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is preparing itself for a massive leadership transition. Following the appointment of new state unit chiefs in six states and Union territories, the party is now working on assigning a new national president.

JP Nadda has been at the helm of the BJP since 2020. His term expired in 2023 but was prolonged until after the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Now that the elections are over, the BJP is getting ready for new leadership at the top.

Party sources informed Live Hindustan that it is likely to appoint a woman as the next national president. That would be the first time for the BJP.

Why BJP Is Looking at Woman Leader

The BJP has seen growing support from women voters in recent elections. Party leaders believe a woman at the top could strengthen this trend. It would also reflect the party’s push for more women in leadership.

In 2023, the BJP government enacted the Women’s Reservation Bill. It guarantees 33% reservation for women in Parliament and state legislatures. A woman party head would be a gesture of commitment to that change.

Nirmala Sitharaman: Strong Contender with National Profile

Nirmala Sitharaman is among the leading names in the fray. She has served as Finance Minister since 2019. She is also among the most prominent BJP leaders at the national level.

Sitharaman is a Tamil Nadu native. That is in favor of the BJP because the party wishes to grow in the South. She has met JP Nadda and BJP General Secretary BL Santhosh recently. Her expertise and clout make her one of the best contenders.

D Purandeswari: Seasoned and Well-Placed

D Purandeswari is another powerful name. She was the BJP’s Andhra Pradesh chief and has strong political roots. She is the daughter of South Indian political legend NT Rama Rao.

Purandeswari headed the BJP’s Operation Sindoor delegation. She spoke for India’s anti-terrorism posture in Europe. She has both experience and credibility.

Vanathi Srinivasan: Ground-Level Leader with Wins

Vanathi Srinivasan is also in the running. She is the BJP Mahila Morcha President and Tamil Nadu MLA. She beat actor Kamal Haasan in 2021 in Coimbatore South.

She has been with the BJP since 1993 and was inducted into the Central Election Committee in 2022. Her ground-level work and recent political victories make her a formidable face for the party.

What’s at Stake for BJP

This nomination is more than a post to be filled. It is about establishing the tone for the BJP’s next chapter. Selecting a woman leader can enable the party to enhance its reputation, expand its base of voters, and send a powerful political signal.

The choice could determine the BJP’s game plan for future state elections and its national direction.
