Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie Settle Divorce, Split Custody of Six Children and Financial Assets

 

After more than eight years of legal battles, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have officially reached a divorce settlement. The couple, who became one of Hollywood's most prominent pairings, signed the final divorce papers on December 30, 2024. This agreement ends one of Hollywood's most publicized and contentious divorces.

Jolie filed for divorce in September 2016, citing a reason for divorce as differences that cannot be reconciled. Since then, the couple has undergone a long, complicated process in court and has clashed over child custody and property division. According to Jolie's attorney, James Simon, the actress finally feels that she has brought this chapter to a close and is now working toward peace and stability for her family.

The couple, married in 2014, has six children together, including Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Knox and Vivienne. Four of the six children became adults during the course of the legal battle. Therefore, decisions regarding custody for them are no longer needed. The couple's youngest children, Knox and Vivienne, are minors.

According to her lawyer, actress Jolie had dedicated herself to healing and protecting her family for this long process. She avoided saying anything bad about Pitt even when they both suffered at the hands of each other. "Angelina is exhausted but relieved this part of the process is over," Simon said. "She is focusing on peace and healing."

During divorce, a private judge had been assigned to take up the case. Details of the agreement remain confidential, but publicly, the couple had many differences fought out through other legal disputes. 

Notably, the couple also disputed the sale of the joint French winery, Château Miraval, sold by Jolie to the Stoli Group. Pitt then filed a lawsuit against Jolie, stating that the sale of Château Miraval was part of a "vindictive" strategy against him. Jolie responded, calling the legal actions against her "frivolous" and part of a pattern.
