Alia Bhatt’s Alpha moves release date to avoid Salman Khan box office clash
The upcoming action thriller Alpha, which stars Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, has officially received a new release date. The makers confirmed that the film will arrive in cinemas on July 10, 2026. The announcement ended speculation that the project might skip theatres and release on streaming platforms. The spy thriller update introduced a new poster, generating new excitement for fans who are waiting to see the film
Avoiding a Box-Office Clash With Salman Khan’s Film
The decision to shift the release date appears linked to the scheduled debut of Salman Khan’s war drama Battle of Galwan. Both films were earlier expected to release on April 17, 2026, which could have resulted in a major box-office clash. According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the production team chose to delay the film to avoid direct competition during the same weekend.
Adarsh shared the update on social media, noting that the production banner decided to step aside for Khan’s film and would announce a new date after reviewing the theatrical calendar. The revised July schedule now gives the film a clearer window at the box office.
Alpha’s Place in the YRF Spy Universe
Directed by Shiv Rawail, Alpha is the sixth film in the popular YRF Spy Universe. The franchise already includes successful titles like Pathaan, War, and the Tiger series. The upcoming project is notable for being the first female-led spy thriller within the franchise.
Speaking earlier about the film, Bhatt acknowledged the challenge of leading an action project in a series traditionally dominated by male heroes. “Alpha is the first female-led action film from the YRF universe, so that’s also a risk,” the actor said while discussing the project at the Red Sea Film Festival.
What the Release Shift Means for the Franchise
The decision to move Alpha highlights changing release strategies in the Indian film industry. Large productions increasingly avoid competing directly with other major star-driven projects.
The film's July release date will provide better box-office exposure while YRF Spy Universe expands through its new female-led story. The shift also reflects growing confidence in action stories centered on women in mainstream Bollywood franchises
